"Unpublished works in archives are protected by U.S. copyright law, and authors maintain exclusive rights to control the duplication and distribution of their work. Although authors may transfer their copyright ownership to others or give a library ownership of the work itself, even if it is the only existing copy, this does not by itself transfer copyright in the work. The doctrine of fair use allows the copying of copyrighted works in limited situations. While not every educational use is considered fair use, copying or quoting small amounts of copyrighted material, particularly for the purpose of historical research or criticism, may be considered fair use." https://legalbeagle.com/6606003-anime-copyright-laws.html

Bibliography

Neil Coffman-Grey is a 30+ year Ventura County gay rights activist, known particularly for his dedicated service with AIDS Care, the NAMES quilt project, and Gold Coast Archives, a collection of local LGBTI and HIV/AIDS historical documents. Grey served on the Gay and Lesbian Resource Center’s Board of Directors and as public policy coordinator on the HIV/AIDS Coalition of Ventura County. A member of the Lesbian and Gay Alliance, he is also a founder of the Unity Pride Coalition and LEARN (Life Enhancement and Addictions Recovery Network) and helped establish the Ventura County Gay and Lesbian Community Center. Grey, along with husband Keith and others, kick-started Quilt Project Gold Coast in 2018, for the purposes of "raising awareness of HIV/AIDS, remembering those lost to the disease, and helping survivors cope with the loss of their loved ones."
